She said she views the honor as more of a team award, since none of this would have been possible without her assistant coaches and athletes. "I had no idea what she was referring to until I got the email," Koehler said. She found out she won the award after receiving a message from Livonia Churchill coach Amanda Byers, who was congratulating her on the honor. The award was voted on by coaches of the eight state finalist teams, which of course included Koehler, who was unable to vote for herself. Those accomplishments helped Plymouth cheer coach Sam Koehler earn the Competitive Cheer Coaches Association of Michigan (CCCAM) Coach of the Year award. The Wildcats won their first KLAA championship, district championship and earned the state runner-up for the first time in school history. It was a year of firsts for the Plymouth cheer program.
